REGE 20 APR

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Your letter of this date, and have written to my learned friend, the Superintendent of the Nautical Almanac Office, to ask him to introduce me to Mr. Roberts some day next week.

2. With reference to Tidal Observations, it is the Earl of Derby's intention that the current observations should be made under my direction at Hong Kong. I shall be most anxious to pay attention to their details.

3. I venture to enclose a copy of a letter which I had the honour to address to the Crown Agents for the Colonies on the 3rd Inst., and I have also the honour to enclose an extract from Nature, containing testimonials similar to those I have received.

4. With reference to the eventual extension of the activity of the Hong Kong Observatory, I would venture to remark that Meteorological Observations would appear to be a most useful addition to the work. I was introduced to General Strachey, the chairman of the Meteorological Council, who takes great interest in this output.

5. Seismical observations would be useful in connection with the Tidal observations.
